Samuel Archer started this petition to Nintendo

On September 3rd, 2020, Nintendo uploaded a Nintendo Direct to their YouTube channel that announced their upcoming products for the 35th Anniversary of the Super Mario Bros franchise. The main major announcement Nintendo had shown to the public was a collection of three 3D Super Mario games, Super Mario 3D All Stars.

However there is a BIG problem.

Super Mario 3D All Stars will not be available for purchase after the end of March 2021. Meaning you can not buy a physical copy of the product or even a digital copy.

Reasons why this is wrong:

1. False scarcity

The action of making this product only available for a limited amount of time, even as an anniversary title, provides a false sense of scarcity and only encourages scalpers to buy out plenty of physical copies to sell on eBay once the product is taken out of stores, as well as encouraging them to buy Nintendo Switches to buy Super Mario 3D All Stars on the Nintendo eShop and sell the Switch used so someone can play Super Mario 3D All Stars if they missed out on their chance to buy the product.

2. Encourages piracy even more

The purpose of Super Mario 3D All Stars should be to provide an easier option to play Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy by having them available on the current Nintendo console; the Nintendo Switch.

However, by making it a limited release you remove a better option that gives a consumer an incentive to not commit piracy to play your games via emulation. Which Nintendo is quite passionate about, as can be seen on their action taken at the rom sharing website Emuparadise.

If you are trying to prevent piracy, give your customers options to be able to play your products legally without needing to resort to piracy. Allow me to expand on this in my next reason.

3. If you want to stop piracy, give us options.

A big gripe people have with Nintendo is that they try to stop piracy all the while not giving their consumers an option to not pirate in the first place. At first, Nintendo gave us options with the Wii and Wii U's Virtual Console, which allowed you to purchase older generation video games from systems like the Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Nintendo 64, and even other non-Nintendo consoles like the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive.

However with the arrival of the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo has since left the Virtual Console behind, opting for retro games being available if you have a Nintendo Online Membership. Which would be viable; if it had more Nintendo consoles besides Super Nintendo and Nintendo Entertainment System.

While, I, the writer of this petition, would prefer the Virtual Console to return, retro games being playable via Nintendo Online is perfectly viable. But we need more than just the NES and SNES games. If the service had consoles like the Nintendo 64 or even the GameCube, it would certainly give people more incentive to buy Nintendo Online and not pirate your games.

Nintendo, please reconsider your choice to make Super Mario 3D All Stars a limited release. Thank you.
