Release Half of a Yellow Sun

The Issue

The official release of Biyi Bandele's film adaptation of Chimamanda Adichie's book, Half of a Yellow Sun, has been delayed by the Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) for over a month. Nigeria's most expensive movie project to date, this film tells a love story set during an important and much overlooked time in the country's history; the civil war. The film has already been released worldwide, yet this Nigerian story cannot be seen in its home country.

Those who have already seen the film have attested to the beauty and power of the story. I think it does both the film-makers and Nigerian movie-goers a great disservice to allow this uncalled-for delay to go on.

Please sign this petition in order to let the NFVCB know that the delay has gone on long enough. Nigerians want and deserve to see this story in their own country, and the film-makers deserve to show and earn money from their film.
