Under 12’s should be exempt from max. numbers allowed to attend weddings during Covid-19.
The Issue
Please sign this petition in support of allowing children under 12 to attend weddings without being counted in the restricted number of guests allowed during COVID-19 restrictions.
The Scottish Government currently states that the restrictions on numbers attending weddings during the new 5 tier system are as follows:-
Level 0
No more than 50 people should attend.
Level 1, 2, 3 or 4
No more than 20 people should attend.
These limits include:
the couple
the witnesses
guests, including children of any age
any carers accompanying someone attending the ceremony
any staff not employed by the venue, such as a photographer, musicians or others a couple has employed for the purpose of the ceremony.
The celebrant and any required interpreter do not count towards these limits.
While our children under 12 are unaccounted for with regards to numbers allowed in most other activities, dining out, school etc. We are to include them in the number of guests allowed to attend a life event such as a wedding. Meaning that we are having to sacrifice having some of our children at our ceremonies and receptions, causing a great deal of upset, distress and anger amongst the wedding community.
We find it completely contradictory that children can attend school in large groups, are not included in the rule of six while dining out, or are able to attend activities in large groups as long as in Tier 3 or lower. As Nicola Sturgeon keeps schools open during the highest tier of restrictions - Tier 4, stating that there is very low risk of transmission of COVID-19 in children, we find it very contradictory that children as young as newborns are to be accounted for in numbers allowed to attend these once in a lifetime special events. We are not asking to allow vast numbers of children, but simply to apply the same rule as for many other number restrictions - that children under the age of 12 do not count toward numbers permitted - within reason.
Therefore we call on Nicola Sturgeon and the Scottish Government to reconsider their stance on counting children of any age attending weddings.
