FWC - STOP KILLING BLACK BEARS
THE 2015 BEAR HUNT WAS CLOSED AFTER 2 DAYS AS HUNTERS MASSACRED 300 BEARS. NOW 300 CUBS ARE SUSPECTED TO BE ORPHANS AND COULD POSSIBLY SUFFER WITH NO PARENT OUT THERE TO LOOK AFTER THEM. WE MUST END THIS HORRIFIC PATH THAT FWC IS ON AND CALL FOR BETTER SOLUTIONS!

FWC, please also change your policy of euthanizing bears who have, or are even SUSPECTED of having had a negative human/bear encounter. Please instead find a way of properly identifying the bear in question, and then relocating that bear instead of euthanizing. Also please do not do another bear hunt in 2016. Your 2015 hunt was stopped after 2 days because the quota was so quickly met. It is reported that approximately 300 orphaned cubs were left behind and are now trying to fend for themselves and may well not survive, possibly suffering painful deaths.
Please also do more to promote safety when living close to black bears, like educating the public not to feed them and house to store their trash properly so the bears are not attracted to it.
If a bear absolutely has to be euthanized for legal reasons, then please ensure properly identify the animal who did the attack before randomly euthanizing any bears you trap, and then finding out after they are dead that they were not responsible. A policy change and a better way of managing these situations needs to be found.
For example, you euthanized two Florida Black Bears after a woman walking her dogs was mauled on 2nd Dec 2013. The first bear you discovered after euthanizing it had NOT been responsible for the attack, and the second, you say "closely fits the description" of the bear involved in the attack in Longwood Florida on Dec. 2. According to a call back from your bear management team on 10th Dec, you have suspended bear trapping for this incident while you await DNA test results of the second bear. If it is not a match, trapping and euthanizing will resume.
Now more recently in mid April 2014 in Lake Mary, FL, another lady was sadly attacked in her garage by several bears and in the week following 7 bears have been trapped and euthanized.
You are responsible for protecting Florida's wildlife, and should be held accountable for conducting a more responsible investigation before taking such drastic measures in an effort to resolve this issue.
Please note my heart goes out to the ladies who were attacked and their families, this is in no way intended to take away from their pain and suffering and the seriousness of what happened to them.
