Convince NHTSA to reverse the request for Tesla to remove Rolling Stop for FSD Beta.
As evidenced by a recent recall from Tesla, NHTSA has requested that Tesla remove the Rolling Stop option in FSD Beta. Currently, this feature only allows the car to perform a rolling stop at a stop sign when the intersection is completely clear of other vehicles, pedestrians, etc. What makes this issue so important to me is that it sets the groundwork for future Human-Like features to be removed from FSD Beta if the feature breaks a law (eg. stopping at a stop sign).
We want our cars to drive better than a human, but still be human-like. Nobody likes to come to a full stop (0 MPH) at every intersection when the intersection is clearly vacant. The full integration and adoption of automobile robots into our lives requires them to be human-like for mass adoption. NHTSA is not concerned about adoption. They are concerned about safety and rightfully so. However, the ultimate safety is the full adoption of self-driving vehicles which will soon be safer than a human driving. We do not want features like Rolling Stops to be removed from our vehicles. For the future of autonomous driving, let's show Tesla and NHTSA that we care about this by signing this petition!
