Stop the NHS prescribing fostair inhalers.
The Issue
Fostair 100/6 steroid inhalers can cause adverse effects on patients.
My father isnt in the best physical nor mental health and takes many prescribed medication. After being diagnosed with asthma along with his other heath issues, his NHS gp prescribed him a forstair inhaler. However he started to get dark thoughts and manic depression with suicidal thoughts, and was in a very bad place with his mental health. My father is normally a very happy outgoing man and as a family we noticed these changes in his behaviours, he complained couldn't sleep at night due to intense panic attacks as he laid down. He admitted he had thoughts of harming himself, at times he would be happy and joyful and the next crying with sadness for no apparent reason.
I urge the NHS to take this medication off their shelfs or make patients aware of these side effects before prescribing this brand.
Surly there must be an alternative inhaler that can be prescribed with lesser adverse affects.
This is a known side effect of forstair inhalers and the NHS still continue to prescribe this to their vulnerable patients, without full attention to the side effects it can cause. I am unsure if this medication had been the cause of any person's self harm or suicide however, my father came very close to this irreversible consuquence.
