Why this petition matters

Started by Marie Olaonipekun

During this pandemic, many have lost loved ones but those who have been to hospital and have been fortunate to survive has been through the care of NHS staff.

Dealing with death and uncertainty all the time is taking a toll on our NHS staff members especially those on the front line I.e A&E nurses/doctors who constantly have to watch an increasing number of their patients die day in day out. Imagine the hopelessness they feel with the inability to save lives over and over again.

Although there may be a wellness centre at the hospital which allows them to take a seat and have tea and cookies it doesn’t equip them with the necessary coping mechanisms/methods to deal with such heavy emotional situations constantly.

They should have therapists immediately/readily available 24/7 to talk to, sessions to assess their mental state and equip them with tools to cope.
Please let’s avoid situations like the one where a nurse took her life in a London teaching hospital due to the hopelessness of it all during the first covid wave. A&E Nurses/Doctors taking time off due to being burnt out and mentally drained.

As more and more people die, please let’s not have our NHS frontline staff also give up their lives because there wasn’t adequate mental health support for them.

Please help by signing this petition, so that more support is provided to help NHS frontline staff mental health!
