Hey NHDOT - West Leb Wants Its Waterfront

Hey NHDOT - West Leb Wants Its Waterfront
Why this petition matters

For three decades downtown West Lebanon, NH has been cut off from the Connecticut River by the abandoned Westboro Rail Yard. Controlled by the State of NH DOT, the 17-acre parcel represents the entire waterfront of the Central Business District, preventing public access to the Connecticut River at the confluence of the White River. The parcel is contaminated, the buildings are functionally obsolete and dangerously dilapidated, and the parcel is covered in invasive species and debris.
After decades of effort, there are three critical, active proposals before the NHDOT that would allow West Lebanon to regain its Riverfront:
- The remediation and demolition of the remaining buildings to allow for safe reuse of the parcel.
- A 99-year lease of much of the parcel to the City, allowing for the long-sought-after waterfront park and West Lebanon Greenway without the City taking on the full environmental burden.
- The allowance of creating safe, co-existing crossings of the occasionally used rail line, to enable public access to the waterfront and the expanding Greenway trail network.
