Bad calls and no-calls such as those perpetrated at the NFC championship in January 20, 2019 have a tremendous negative effect not only in the outcome of a game and it's players, but also the fan base that supports the team and league, and other citizens of the team's home town, both emotionally and economically. This particular instance is only the most recent in a laundry list of travesties perpetrated by referees.

Players are held to a high standard of conduct on and off the field, and when they deviate from that standard they are often fined and suspended, and also investigated and penalized for scandal when circumstances seem appropriate. As they are given an equally important role in the outcome of games so should the referees be held to the same standards and consequences: fines that correlate to the degree of negligence/misrepresentation shown, suspension/termination for acts of bias, and investigation with severe penalties where the final outcome was heavily altered by their actions/inactions. Where bribery has been found, they should be fined DOUBLE the amount of the bribe and donate at least a portion of that amount to philanthropic efforts in the city represented by the team that was cheated. In the instances such as that of the most recent NFC championship where their negligence was so blatant that the NFL immediately admits to it, there should be an automatic rematch.

My city is heartbroken by the negligence and lack of integrity and fairness perpetrated by these paid officials, as are many others who before have suffered the same egregious conduct. Make it fair. Make it right.
