Hughie Gallacher was arguably Newcastle United's greatest ever player, with a remarkable record of 143 goals in 174 appearances between 1925-30 (0.82 goals per game, the most prolific ever). He was Newcastle United captain the last time the club won the League Championship in 1927.

His goalscoring record was phenomenal throughout his career, including his time at Queen of the South, Airdrieonians, Chelsea & Derby County. He scored 24 goals in only 20 appearances for Scotland, and was one of the Wembley Wizards of 1928.

There is not so much as a headstone, statue or plaque anywhere in Scotland or England to commemorate this magnificent player who sadly died in tragic circumstances in 1957.
