BRING OUR KIWIS HOME

For many New Zealanders, the idea of self isolation at home is a distant dream. After Peru closed its borders on March 16th, over 80 Kiwis were caught on the wrong side of the border. The short notice they were given about this closure was too little, and far too late.

In Peru and across Latin America, our Kiwi families and friends wait in isolation as armed officers patrol the streets and anxiety rises: will they continue to access food, water, medicine? Will they be able to secure accommodation as Peru's lock down continues? They hear news of other countries working to repatriate citizens, but only silence from home.

These New Zealanders are our sisters, our brothers, our parents and our children and they wish only to self isolate at home. We are grateful that in these times, social media connects us and gives a voice to our struggles. Our brothers and sisters are calling for help; we ask you to echo that call so it can be heard by our Government: "Bring New Zealanders home."
