The NYT ethical standards preach giving their readers “the complete, unvarnished truth.” However, this article presents Maggie Haney's side of the story without challenging or investigating her claims or including facts/quotes from gymnasts who have suffered her abuse.

This article is incredibly problematic, as it discourages victims of abuse from speaking their truth. Additionally, it portrays Haney as a sympathetic character, which may influence parents to send their children to her gym and suffer abuse.
