Attention: Irwin Benjamin, re article, The Pride Parade, What are they proud of? Which appeared in the Jewish Press
Dear Mr. Benjamin, today I was given the opportunity to read an article you wrote titled, The Pride Parade, what are they proud of?
Since through your article, I was given a little glimpse into who you are, let me commence by offering the same.
I am imperfect, I am a husband, a son, a father of a 16 year old heterosexual daughter and the father of a 27 year old transgender daughter. I am a registered republican, a man of Catholic Faith, a Friend to those I love, white and black and everything in between Heterosexual , Bisexual , Gay, Lesbian, Transgender and Queer . I am a man who will always stand for what I believe is right and will speak out against what is wrong . Now that we understand a little about each other let’s begin.
It is appalling to see how history has taught you nothing. The intolerance you pontificate comes from the same roots which in the 1940’s led to the deaths of more then 6 million Jews. The use of your platform to spread such ideology is irresponsible and polar opposite to Gods love. As a Catholic who’s faith teaches both the Old Testament (The Torah) as well as the New Testament) God is Omniscient and Omnipotent and has created us ALL in his image and without mistake.
It is the same ignorance you show in your article that parallels the views of some in the Catholic Church as well, which has led to the continued decline and erosion in faith in the youth of today. That is what you should reflect on when you lay your head to rest each night and the first thing when you awake and look at the person you are. Unlike you, who are so emboldened to judge others , which the Torah is very clear about Gods intent on, as what is written in the Torah, it is easier to point the finger then to look inward. It is also said as well in the teachings of the New Testament in the catholic faith also “ before you take the spec of dust from your brothers eye, take the plank from your own, it is only then you will be able to clearly see the spec in your brothers eye.
God did not bestow upon you the responsibility of judgement, that awaits you and us all at the end of our lives and I am certain will be based in accordance to the life we have led and how we chose to care for each other. So in this regard I will certainly remember to keep you in my prayers .
A person who identifies as one of the LGBTQ hasn’t chosen to do so. It is not a choice, it is what makes them who they are, and is known early on in there development. Your comparisons to animals and humans differentiated by the ability to choose is on on all levels wrong. The correct comparison would be the choice to breath or not. This is the reason so many tragically chose to take their own lives, rather then live a life that is not there own. No matter how hard you may try to pray it out of them, or shame it out of them through acts such as your article you will fail, as you already have as a member of humanity as well as a man of God.
You asked in the title of your article, What do they have to be proud of? Well, perhaps, this may help lift the vail that blinds you.
The End of Unwarranted persecution and the right to exist , the same pride the Jews have fought for since the beginning of time. For the past 50 years since the civil unrest that occurred during the stone wall riots. When ignorance, and hate and yes, the same intolerance you impose in your article reached a point that brought those who are LGBTQ to stand up for there God Given Rights to be heard, to be loved , and to be accepted. So next time you want to write such an article , why don’t you take a moment and think of the inward struggles they have endured , the lives that have been lost in a continuing quest to be accepted , to be loved and treated with the same level of equality you have come to except the from others . Do onto others as you would have done onto you.
