I am Raymond Brown. At 59 years old I have been incarcerated for over 21 years. I was sentenced to a prison term of 50 years to life after being found guilty of murder and other charges in 2001. I will not become eligible for release until the year 2042. If I live that long, I would be 81 years old.

The words don't exist to adequately express the disgrace and disgust I feel for my actions I caused irreparable harm to and victimized innocent people. The level of remorse I hold in my heart for my actions cannot be quantified. I take full responsibility for the pain and trauma I've inflicted upon the victims, their families and the community.

Two decades later, criminal thinking and behavior do not define me. Getting to this point where I could take full responsibility for my actions did not happen over night, It came after I reclaimed my soul. It came after years of deep introspection. I came to have  realization that I was not the man I needed to be for my family and community. A real man would not hurt his community the way I did.

I have made a firm commitment to turn my life around. I bear no resemblance to the angry, arrogant and reckless person I had been in the 1990's

After coming to terms with the destruction I caused, I was highly motivated to improve myself and lives of others. I have transformed from someone with a criminal mentality to someone who is socially conscious and civilly engaged. A far cry from when I first entered the state prison system. I offer this letter as an attempt to shed light on my journey to self-discovery. In no way is it intended to absolve me of the blame for my actions, Instead it is my hope that it will provide context in understanding what my beliefs and value systems were in the 1990's, as opposed to what they are now.

Among other things I have completed vocational programs for electrical, carpentry, plumbing and roofing. I have earned certificates for suicide prevention, and wheelchair mobility assistance; certificates for Alternatives to violence project (AVP) in basic and advanced courses. I have completed Narcotics Anonymous (NA) and Alcoholic Anonymous (AA)programs. I have earned certificates for the Osborn Association in Parenting, Fatherhood Forum and Strengthening Relationship courses

I have certificates for Exodus Transitional Community, Inc.,  for successfully completing Thirty six sessions of the cognitive and values-based community Re-entry and Re-socialization program; which covered topics associated with re-entry , family reunification, re-socialization and criminogenic issues; including anti-social cognition, developing the core self, ethical living networking forgiveness and post release planning.

The above is just a short list of my many accomplishments. It provides a tangible record of my ongoing road to rehabilitation and redemption. I am asking for support from everyone who believes in principles of mercy, redemption and transformation. I will continue praying each day for those whom I hurt; new beginnings and for all those who continue to support my anticipated reintegration into my community

Thank You for your time, consideration and support
