Why this petition matters

The property on 222 City Island Avenue is zoned M1-1 and our proposed development is not one of the approved uses within this zone which is why a variance application has been submitted for the site. The contaminated 55,000 square foot site is currently utilized as a construction yard. The proposed residence will provide 200 assisted living apartments and 14 individually accessed, age restricted independent living apartments in a thirty-five foot high, four story, 141,000 square foot, highly amenitized facility with a 39,277 square foot subterranean parking structure with 102 parking spaces. City Island presently has about 39 empty stores and is in economic decline. The new facility will provide jobs and revitalize the area. The facility will offer any New Yorker the opportunity to live in a facility offering Italian food, music and culture. This matter is very important to us, and we are urging you to lend your strong support to the Italian Hospital Society, Inc., in creating this unique senior housing facility, the Italian Home for the Aged.
