New Transfer School For Immigrant Students In Brooklyn, NY
The Issue
Open a Transfer High School in Brooklyn, Dedicated to Supporting Immigrant Youth and Families, like Manhattan Comprehensive Day and Night High School in Manhattan. Flanbwayan calls on the City of New York to establish a transfer High School in Brooklyn dedicated to supporting newly arrived immigrant young adult students.
There are hundreds of newcomer students in Brooklyn from around the world, including Haiti, Latin America, Africa, and Asia, seeking a safe, welcoming place to learn and build a future. Many of these students face language barriers, interrupted education, and challenges adjusting to a new school system. Too often, they are placed in schools that are not equipped to meet their academic, linguistic, or emotional needs.
Creating such a school is not just about education; it is about equity, inclusion, and opportunity. Brooklyn’s immigrant youth deserve a place where they can learn, belong, and thrive.
We urge the City of New York to commit to funding and opening a dedicated immigrant support school in Brooklyn that reflects the diversity, resilience, and potential of our community.
