Buffalo Trace Distillery has contracts to purchase several farms on Peaks Mill Road in Frankfort, Kentucky in order to build warehouses.   Instead of seeking a zone change that would allow the construction of industrial warehouses in an agricultural area, Buffalo Trace is seeking to change the zoning code itself.

Under the distillery's proposal, construction of whiskey warehouses would be allowed in agricultural or rural areas as long as the distillery obtained a conditional use permit. This means anyone living in a rural or agricultural area of Franklin County could have industrial warehouses built next to them without even being notified.

This petition is the response of Peaks Mill neighbors and friends to the possible construction of industrial warehouses in rural areas.   We wish to protect the scenic, historic, agricultural, recreational, and ecological integrity of Peaks Mill and the rural areas of Franklin County.

We, the undersigned, oppose industrial development in Peaks Mill.  Known for its rural beauty, historic farms, and the scenic Elkhorn Creek, Peaks Mill is unique, beloved, and valuable as it is.  Therefore, we oppose any action that would lead to industrial development of any kind in the Peaks Mill area.  Furthermore, we oppose any action that would subject agricultural and rural areas of Franklin County to industrial development without a zone change.
