NEW PAROLE DATE - SEPT. 30, 2025 Deny the Parole of Steve Sanchez's killer

The Issue

***Our original parole date was postponed until Sept. 30, 2025 at 8:30am.

We're asking you to please sign our petition if you didn't sign the first time around.  And most importantly, we ask for your prayers that the parole board commissioners will find that Stephen's killer should serve the full sentence he was given for taking Stephen's life and almost taking the life of another.

We sincerely thank you,

Steve Sanchez's Family

On July 29, 2000, a coward stabbed Stephen M. Sanchez at a house party attended by Stephen’s high school friends and football teammates, less than 5 miles from his home.  A huge fight broke out that night, and Alvarez stabbed Stephen and Stephen’s friend from behind. During the murder trial, Alvarez did not deny committing the crime, but he tried to claim that he was in fear for his life and stabbed the two young men in self-defense.

Stephen died July 30, 2000 from blood loss on the operating table at UCI Medical Center.  He suffered a broken rib and a punctured lung from the force of the violent attack.  Thankfully, his friend survived the attack, but was left with a lifetime of physical and emotional scars.

The inmate was convicted of second-degree murder, attempted murder and several enhancements.  He was sentenced to 29 years to life to be served consecutively.  He will have only served 23 years and 7 months when he is considered for parole.

We ask you to join us in letting the California Parole Board know that the cowardly actions of Alvarez that night have been a life sentence for Steve's mom and the rest of his family.  We ask that parole for the inmate to be denied on September 30, 2025.  Justice demands he serve the full prison term given to him at the time he was sentenced for this heinous crime.

We thank you for your support.
