New Mid-Sized Concert Venue Needed in Seattle

New Mid-Sized Concert Venue Needed in Seattle

The Issue

Problem/Reasons: Seattle has a lack of mid-sized concert venues revolving around filling in the gap between smaller clubs and larger arenas. The fact is we don't have a 5,000-person+ concert-only venue that permits sightline other than standing floor area.

  • That Was Then: Seattle Center used to have the needed Mercer Arena (5,000-8,000) but it is since demolished in favor of the new Opera House, including the adjacent McCaw Hall.
  • Avoiding Hot Boxes: WaMu Theater (7,000) has horrible seating arrangements because they only have portable seating sections that don't slope, which leaves shorter people at a disadvantage when it comes to getting a decent view of the stage.
  • Missed An Opportunity: At one point, we liked Chris Hansen's indoor concert hall proposal to fill in the city's void of a mid-range market. However, the proposal dismissed by the Office of Economic Development because that project never officially submitted during the RFP process for KeyArena.

Solution: We need our decision-makers to advocate the needs of the new mid-sized concert venues in Seattle by doing the following steps:

  1. Have a plan and submit it to the Office of Economic Development.
  2. Compete against the size-comparable likes of the WaMu Theater.
  3. Find the new location of a planned area to develop.
  4. Get to know the Seattle neighborhood.
  5. Identify the new venue like a theater/auditorium for all genres alike.
  6. Book the world-class/international artists who are looking to perform in venues that are much more affordable than large arenas.
  7. Promote the new music venue by marketing the target audience.

Without the Victory: Not completing the first step will be the same mistake, which will lead to losing interest to both the concert fans and developers alike.

Benefit To Who? The new mid-sized concert venue in Seattle will benefit our concertgoers and artists alike to gain better live music experiences at a sizeable level. So, please sign and share the petition to fulfill the opportunity for the better cause of improving Seattle's music scene.
