New Jersey State Legislature: Pass a law making it illegal to display obscene material to a minor
New Jersey State Legislature: Pass a law making it illegal to display obscene material to a minor
The Issue
Last January, 2012, pornographic video was displayed to my (then) 9 year old son on a Saturday afternoon at the Summit Public Library via a library computer. I was told by the head librarian, mayor, police chief, and the assistant district attorney for Union county that this man had broken no law in displaying obscene material to my son. It is important for parents to be able to protect their children from harmful and disturbing images, and until the display of pornographic material to minors in New Jersey is illegal, every child in our state is at risk of being exposed pornography in any public place in our state.
