New Jersey State Ceasefire resolution & Divestment Bill

New Jersey State Ceasefire resolution & Divestment Bill
The Issue
Today, we reach out to you with a crucial and urgent call to action. We urge you to join us in signing this petition, compelling New Jersey state legislature to pass a ceasefire resolution and take a decisive stand against the ongoing genocide in Gaza. If introduced and passed, New Jersey will be the second state to pass a state ceasefire resolution.
The heartbreaking reality is that 3,000 family members of our fellow New Jersey residents have lost their lives in Gaza and the West Bank in recent months. We ask you to watch this moving story of Noreen Rashid, a New Jersey resident, who tragically lost her young cousins and other family members outside their home in Gaza. Their stories remind us of the human toll this genocide is taking on communities across our state.
The genocide in Gaza has not only claimed innocent lives in the Middle East but has also ignited a surge in anti-Arab, anti-Muslim, and anti-Palestinian hate throughout New Jersey. In April, the Rutgers University Center for Islamic Life was vandalized on the last day of Ramadan. The U.S. government's unconditional support of Israel is fueling religious and racial tensions throughout the state.
Two-thirds of Americans support permanent ceasefire in Gaza and conditioning military aid to Israel. In New Jersey, both local and state officials have made ceasefire statements - from Democratic State Committee Chair LeRoy Jones Jr. to Newark Mayor Ras Baraka to Governor Phil Murphy. Eleven NJ municipalities have passed ceasefire resolutions; specifically, Paterson, Prospect Park, Haledon, Union City, North Bergen, Weehawken, Guttenberg, Cliffside Park, Ridgefield, Wayne and East Orange. Jersey City and Newark have introduced resolutions, while constituents have been advocating for resolutions in townships in Middlesex County, Essex County, on the Jersey Shore and in South Jersey. Paterson, New Jersey is also home to one of the largest Palestinian-American communities in the country, the south Paterson neighborhood is widely known as Little Palestine. This along with the densely populated cities across NJ that have passed local ceasefire resolutions, serve as a major voting block in this state, and this should not be understated
Students at Rutgers University, the largest public university in New Jersey, are currently pushing for divestment of university funds from companies involved in Israeli apartheid and genocide. New Jersey's complicity in the current genocide is related not only to investments, but to direct business relationships established through the New Jersey-Israel Commission. This relationship needs to end. The ceasefire resolution would be the first step towards ending New Jersey's complicity in Israel's assault on Gaza.
Please feel free to comment the City you are representing or your local representatives to add pressure… Videos of support are also encouraged and appreciated.
send this to Cory Booker, Rob Menendez Jr. & the rest of the corrupted politicians supporting the Genocide in Gaza.
