Appeal the denial decision of LEAP Academy EXPANSION REQUEST

The Issue

We were pleased to have received  our renewal, something that we all collectively have worked hard to sustain.  However, our request to be able to offer the LEAP opportunity to a modest number of additional families  (20 students per grade) was denied for the single reason of "Camden having too many options for families".   As parents of children in Camden, we find this decision to be opposite to what the Governor and the local education   leaders promised our families.  We have been led to believe that offering families in Camden with more quality options is a priority and frankly, the purpose of the Universal Enrollment Program.  Therefore, the decision to curtail the growth of LEAP Academy came as a big disappointment, given the excellent work that LEAP does for our children and youth.  With a 100% high school graduation rate and 100% college placement rate, LEAP Academy is  Tier I school that has spearheaded the movement in the City of Camden for offering families quality education options.  Denying an equal opportunity to these additional students is morally and educationally wrong.  We find this decision discriminatory against LEAP to say the least, given that the Renaissance schools were allowed to grow and expand by the Superintendent of Camden City schools.  We are appealing to you, Governor Christie and Commissioner Hespe, because we find this decision unfair and inconsistent with the messages we have received from the local Superintendent and our Legislators.
