Grace Landry started this petition to New Hampshire Board of Education and

Systemic racism permeates our education system and whitewashes the history taught in our public schools. The NH Board of Ed’s mission statement states, “…the state's education system to ensure that every individual acquires the skills and knowledge to succeed in a competitive global economy and thrive as a 21st century citizen.” However, the biased history and incomplete curriculum leaves out necessary education for students to be successful in the future. To dismantle the systemic racism and white privilege that currently exist in society, we must educate students about it. A problem can not be fixed if it is not understood.

Sign this petition to call to action the NH Board of Education and NH Congress Members to reform New Hampshire’s history education. The NH BOE needs to include education on systemic racism in the school systems. NH Congress Representatives need to create bills and vote in support of reforming history education. It is necessary that the curriculum teaches the entirety of the country’s past. Students must learn about the history of oppression, and the reality of the “American Dream.” We must educate students about racism and the systemic inequities that exist. As a state that is over 90 percent white, it is necessary that we discuss race in our school system. By dismissing the need to incorporate education on systemic racism into the curriculum of New Hampshire schools perpetuates systemic racism and white privilege.
