I have just read this on the New Forest Roads Awareness Facebook Page:
Glad to know that we can give you some good news. Over the last 10 weeks, there has been no fatal incidents with New Forest Livestock. 2 ponys have been injured, one, a hit and run, injured, one uninjured, and one nothing found. Six, Yes Six weeks where the verderers are pleased to announce there have been no RTC's. In the ten+ years I have been doing this, I have never known this.
Credit has to go to the joint working of the Animal Accident Reduction Group, To the Police officers that run OP MOUNTIE, and to you, the people who drive across the New Forest with care. Every animal is owned, and has it's place in shaping the New Forest. Please help us to keep this going on. With Foals on the roads, and the Stallions out everyone one of us has to #expecttheunexpected #bepreparedtostop Thank you all. Please share.
Councillor Heron shared the news on his page and added: This is really good news and I am incredibly grateful to all those who have worked so hard to improve the safety of the stock, especially the New Forest Roads Awareness team and all involved with Operation Mountie. However, we mustn’t be complacent and more still needs to be done, including getting an average speed camera system in place on the B3078 Roger Penny Way between Godshill and Bramshaw, which remains one of the highest animal casualty routes in the Forest.
