New dog park

The Issue

We, the undersigned residents and supporters of Fort Lee, respectfully petition the Borough Council to consider the establishment of a second dog park within our community.

Current Situation
Fort Lee currently hosts one designated off-leash dog park located at 519 Stillwell Avenue. This facility features separate areas for large and small dogs and operates daily from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM Fort Lee. While this park provides a valuable space for pet owners, the growing number of dog-owning residents has led to increased usage, often resulting in overcrowding and limited availability during peak hours.

Proposed Locations for a New Dog Park
After evaluating existing public spaces within Fort Lee, we propose the following locations as potential sites for a new dog park:

Constitution Park (Hudson Terrace & Linwood Avenue): Spanning 5.6 acres, this park includes amenities such as walking tracks, playgrounds, and restrooms Fort Lee. Its expansive layout could accommodate a designated off-leash area without disrupting current activities.
Firemen's Park (272 Whiteman Street): This centrally located park offers open spaces that could be adapted for a dog-friendly environment.
Coytesville Park: Situated in a quieter neighborhood, this park presents an opportunity to serve residents in the northern part of Fort Lee.

Benefits of an Additional Dog Park
Enhanced Community Engagement: A new dog park would provide a safe and controlled environment for pets and owners to socialize, fostering stronger community ties.
Health and Wellness: Encouraging outdoor activity for both dogs and their owners promotes physical health and mental well-being.
Alleviation of Overcrowding: Distributing the canine population across multiple parks would reduce wear and tear on existing facilities and minimize conflicts among dogs.

Call to Action
We urge the Fort Lee Borough Council to:

Conduct a Feasibility Study: Assess the proposed locations for suitability concerning size, accessibility, and minimal disruption to current park activities.
Engage with the Community: Host public forums to gather input from residents, ensuring that the new park meets the needs of the community.
Allocate Resources: Dedicate funding and resources for the development and maintenance of the new dog park to ensure its sustainability.

By signing this petition, we express our collective support for the development of an additional dog park in Fort Lee, aiming to enhance the quality of life for our residents and their canine companions.
