New Declaration Of Independence

The Issue

When in the course of human events, a nation strays so far from the ideals of liberty and justice that it becomes unrecognizable to those who love it, the people are left with no choice but to rise. It is not out of recklessness, nor for light and transient causes, that we now stand in defiance. It is out of necessity, as our forebears once did when faced with tyranny, as generations before us fought and bled to preserve the promise of freedom. That promise is now in jeopardy.

We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all people, regardless of race, gender, creed, or origin, are created equal. That they are endowed not by a government, but by the very nature of their existence, with rights that cannot be taken: life, liberty, dignity, and the pursuit of happiness. That governments are instituted among the people to protect these rights, deriving their just power from the consent of the governed. And that when a government betrays this sacred duty, when it becomes an instrument of oppression, division, and cruelty, the people not only have the right but the obligation to resist, to demand justice, and to reclaim the promise of their nation.

The current government of the United States has forsaken its people. It has declared war on the most vulnerable among us—immigrants seeking safety, the LGBTQIA+ community demanding dignity, women fighting for autonomy, and the Indigenous peoples whose land it still exploits. It has embraced corruption and violence, enriching the powerful at the expense of the weak. It has abandoned compassion in favor of cruelty, silenced dissent through fear, and twisted the ideals of democracy into a weapon of control. It has turned neighbor against neighbor, turned truth into a casualty, and turned its back on the very principles upon which this nation was founded.

We have petitioned. We have marched. We have voted. We have pleaded for justice, for mercy, for the basic recognition of our humanity. And time and again, we have been ignored. Instead, we are met with threats, with repression, with a government that serves only itself. A government that sees its own people as adversaries rather than as the source of its legitimacy. This is not democracy. This is not freedom. This is not a government for the people, by the people.

We do not call for destruction, but for renewal. We do not seek chaos, but restoration. We do not wish to dismantle this nation, but to rebuild it upon the foundation it was always meant to stand upon—justice, equality, and true liberty for all. Therefore, we, the people of the United States of America, in unity and resolve, declare our independence from tyranny in all its forms. We pledge to resist injustice wherever it festers. We pledge to hold our leaders accountable, to build a nation worthy of its highest ideals, and to refuse, now and forever, to be ruled by fear.

This is our home. This is our future. And we will not surrender it.
