Avastin for GBM
Avastin for GBM
Avastin is a chemotherapy treatment that is recognized in canada as treatment for GBM (Glioblastoma Multiforme). This is a terminal brain cancer with average life expectancy of 12 to 18 months.
All provinces across Canada except New Brunswick and PEI cover this drug through the provincial catastrophic drug plans. This drug is covered in if you have colon cancer or pancreatic cancer but not brain cancer.
I have tried to find out the reasoning for this through the NB minister of health but could not contact her directly. Her message was just that they would not cover it.
Many people have had success using this treatment when they have a reoccurrance. My husband was diagnosed in December of 2018 and has done very well until his recent MRI showed a new small growth. I have spoken with people that have had 4 years with stable MRIs.
Please help me make this drug available to patients in our province.
GBM makes up 52% of all brain tumors
Gord Downey died of GBM
My husband's journey began in October of 2018 when we thought he was having a stroke. He was diagnosed with a brain bleed at that time. He went through weeks of speech therapy, occupational therapy and physical therapy. He really seemed to be improving. Then December came. He started having terrible headaches. I took him back to the hospital and at that time they found d the reason he had the brain bleed.he had a tumor that was 6cmx4cm. They were able to remove 95% of this tumor before cbristmas . In January of 2019 he started 6 weeks of radiation a d chemotherapy. And now takes this chemo 5 days a month every month. We've also found some natural remedies such as keto, CBD/THC,tumeric, Boswell and many more vitamins daily.
