The Issue

Ntombenhle Rulumeni v Democratic Alliance – SUPREME COURT OF APPEAL

On 6 February 2016 Ntombenhle Rulumeni’s human dignity was violated and her professional
reputation tarnished when she was interviewed by three DA representatives inside the female
toilets at East London Golf Course, Bunkers Hill. DA MP Terri Stander, DA MP Kevin Mileham (Male)
and DA Pitty Cavanough interviewed her inside the female toilets for the Councillor Position leading
to 2016 Local Government Elections. A Complaint was put before the South African Human Rights
Commission. Thereafter the matter was taken to High Court. On 15 October 2019, Ntombenhle
Rulumeni won the case .The DA went on to appeal the judgement of the High Court. On 17
September 2020 the DA lost their appeal with costs. The DA has now filed a notice of appeal to the
Supreme Court of Appeal - South Africa.
The Never Give UP Support Centre in collaboration with other civil society organisations, women’s
movement and men against women abuse have come together in support of Ntombenhle Rulumeni
in this case.
We therefore urge through this petition and the signatures that Ntombenhle Rulumeni’ s dignity be
restored, that she gets the support she needs, that she gets closure ,that she is able to live without
fear of intimidation and that this case comes to an end.
