Nevada State Democratic Party - Clark County Democratic Party: Locate a party office on a major public transportation route.

The Issue

Everyone should have access to the offices of the Democratic party in Clark County (Las Vegas) Nevada even if they depend on public transportation. The new location of the party offices selected without input from the central committee membership and without an official announcement are not accessible to those whom depend on public transportation. Official meetings of the party take place at this location and deny individuals whom depend on public transportation the right to participate. Additionally as central committee members anyone should be able to come to the office at any time using public transportation to examine public records.

The current options available if you need public transportation are to walk routes of a mile or more long on routes that GoogleMaps warns do not include sidewalks. Considering the extreme heat of the Las Vegas climate asking anyone to walk more than 5 minutes in 110+ degree heat on blacktop is outrageous.

The option to use assisted transport in which a person calls and sets up CAT to bring them door to door is too restrictive as it requires medical certification which our poor members without health insurance cannot afford to obtain. Additionally I verified with our public transportation system that NONE of the services for the disabled will go to this office because it is more than 3/4 of a mile from an established bus route.

We are Democrats we can do better because we believe EVERYONE has the RIGHT to participate, and we have the OBLIGATION to facilitate.

We cannot accept a paltry answer that this was the most affordable location as it is simply not the case. Furthermore doing what respects the diversity of our membership should take precedence over any other lavish expenses covered by the party. We can afford to do what is right and ethical. If our leadership does not believe this is possible it is time to open the discussion to the full membership.
