"The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" and its thirteen sequels are arguably some of the most influential children's stories ever written. Through the years several attempts have been made to adapt one or more of the books into a film. The 1939 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film, "The Wizard of Oz",  was perhaps the most influential and iconic cinematic breakthrough of the time, and became a beloved adaptation.

However delightful a breakthrough it was, it was an utter failure to the books. There were contradictory plotlines, absurd rewrites, and undesirable "character un-developments". Some examples include: the misinterpretation of Dorothy's trip to Oz as literal, for in the 1939 movie and 1985's "Return to Oz", the girl was purported as a lunatic who dreamed those things to relate to her psychological health; the misrepresentation of colors in Oz, taking green in the Emerald City as the only color-specific area (the nations are divided by colors, purple in the north, blue in the east, red in the south, and yellow in the west), the ruby versus silver shoes; conflation of the witches; villainization of the winged monkeys; et cetera.

The purpose of this petition is to ask movie studios to recreate "the marvelous land of Oz", using the books as a guide, recreating the first, second, and third books to correct the adaptation mistakes of their predecessors, though not attempting to remake the original films. The best choice would be to again make them musicals. This would also serve to link the updated, more accurate-to-the-book versions, to the classic MGM version. This could help retain some of the beloved feelings to the film, while helping to rectify all of the errors from the books to that particular script.
