Neighbors of Milford Mill Academy want Community Improvement

The Issue

Milford Mill Academy has been a cornerstone of the Rockdale communities for more than 20 years. Many notable persons have graduated from that fine school. As a magnet school, it provides opportunities for many within our county.

The surrounding properties are managed by the Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks. The tracks, fields and grounds play a great role in the health of our neighborhoods.

For at least the last 5 years, there has been an increase in unpleasantness during the school year. The young people gather on Rockdale Terrace, Florida Road, Woodgate Court, Old Milford Mill Road- to name a few places. The high-volume times correlate with the beginning of classes, lunch time and afternoon dismissal.

Each week we are left with trash. It is just left, dropped wherever. Our streets and the paths in our park are gross.

Last school year there were two shootings. We know one young person lost their life.

Juvenile drug and alcohol use is assumed to be commencing. Unknown vehicles spend time parked when these groups are loitering in the neighborhood.

We have seen fights. We have heard gunshots.

Neighbors have reported trespassers and vandalism. Young people have gone into yards and on balconies to use furniture. Gambling has been observed. Persons you do not know are walking through your yard!!

Signs throughout the neighborhood have been spray painted. Requests have been made many times to request updated signage throughout the neighborhood!!

Our Baltimore County Executive is John Olszewski, Jr. and our Director of the Recreation and Parks Department is Bob Smith.

We would like the county to listen and formulate a plan of action with us and then execute that plan.

Trash receptacles are needed, a fence replacement is needed, signage is needed, cleaning or replacement of current signs is needed.

On Monday November 6th, 2023, there was another large gathering of young people after school dismissal. Someone had a gun and began shooting. Baltimore County police were in the neighborhood with Woodgate Court blocked off for a few hours. There was no announcement of injury or otherwise, thankfully.
