The Issue
GRANT BLVD COURT ST CAMPUS PROPERTY CONCERNS
On 7/1/15, the Franciscan Campus at 1024 -1124 Grant Blvd. was purchased by The Kimberly at Grant Blvd. LLC, 4 Clinton Square, Syracuse, NY 13202. Onondaga County property records show a commercial site with a property class designation as a professional building.
At the time of purchase, the new property owners advised they would redevelop the Campus into assisted living, and then changed their plan to develop into apartments. Now 4 years later, the property sits idle with no development and minimal maintenance. Adding to the blight in the City, it remains vacant, with an appalling appearance, neglected with overgrowth, litter and weeds everywhere, fences falling down and in disrepair, as well as deteriorating buildings throughout.
Safety and crime concerns are apparent. Many area residents, including school children who walk, struggle (some have fallen) because of unshoveled sidewalks on this property. There have been at least two instances where the Kimberly property has been vandalized while neighbors fear their properties may also become targets of crime.
The purpose of this petition is to compel the owners to maintain their property according to City of Syracuse codes, ordinances, laws and regulations, and of equal importance, live up to the neighborhood's expectations of a good neighbor relationship including to care for and use this land not only in the present but for the future. Your support and concern for this Campus and its rich history will help us transform it from another blighted property in the City to once again become a crucial anchor on the Northside
