Nearly a Thousand University of Miami Students Left Homeless
Nearly a Thousand University of Miami Students Left Homeless
The Issue
The Class of 2026 at the University of Miami has been given an eviction notice to move. Where? Apparently, the streets, as this very prestigious institution, lack housing to provide for their students. This leaves nearly thousands of young adults (students who are thousands of miles away from home/ different countries, students who don't have a good relationship with their parents, students who can't afford it, etc.) looking for a place to live in the county of Miami Dade, which is currently experiencing a housing crisis which is leaving housing to be unaffordable.
They hook their students in their first year (as the housing crisis is never addressed/mentioned), to later leave them stranded and to fend on their own, as they haven't even sent a next steps email or addressed the situation, where nearly a thousands students of the incoming sophomore class were left without housing. To resolve the housing crisis, they cruelly kicked students out to make room for an entire class that will endure the same treatment or worse as this situation only worsens. This is part of a scam as they lured unsuspecting students into the school to then fail to provide housing or any solution after their first year; this is based on money. The University of Miami doesn't consider each student's situation but sees them as a walking checkbook. In the university's priority list, their students come last. They valued having a 100 million dollar football complex more than providing residency to their students.
This is a situation the university had foreseen, considering the number of students they have and the number of beds they could provide, yet still admitted more students who are currently residing in hotels due to lack of freshman housing.
This is unacceptable for an institution where the cost of attendance is $78,640 and just increasing.
This is a problem that they created they should be able to solve it. We expect solutions and immediate action. We expect them to supply us with alternative housing options and transportation.
The first week of school, they taught us about their philosophy; once you became a Cane, you would be taken care of by Canes, Canes Care for Canes, but apparently, in this situation, this doesn't apply.
Canes Don't Care for Canes
