Growing up with a passion for animal welfare and a dream of becoming a veterinarian, I actively seek every opportunity to engage in animal-focused activities. This included pursuing independent research under mentorship from the University of Pennsylvania, for which I am incredibly grateful. However, finding mentorship and resources was challenging and I often struggled to feel supported. It's this very struggle that inspired me to propose NCARES—the Nassau County Animal Recreation & Engagement Society.

NCARES aims to support and inspire people of all ages in Nassau County who share an interest in animals. By hosting events, talks, and recreational activities, this initiative would remove barriers to exploring animal-related careers and interests. Whether you're an aspiring veterinarian, a wildlife enthusiast, or simply someone who loves animals, NCARES will provide you with the resources, mentorship, and support you need to pursue your passion.

NCARES Goals:

1. Mentorship Programs: Facilitating connections with experienced research students and mentees who hope to pursue their own independent work.
2. Guest Speakers: Offering talks from experts to inspire and educate on careers and studies related to animals.
3. Interactive Events: Organizing hands-on workshops, volunteer opportunities, and social gatherings to actively engage the community with learning and fulfilling activities.

By creating NCARES, we aim to remove barriers that currently exist for those wanting to explore animal-related careers and interests. This initiative will make these opportunities more approachable and accessible to everyone in our community, inspiring the next generation of animal advocates, researchers, and professionals.
