NCAA: Negotiate Division 1 FBS Championship Joint Venture with College Football Playoff

The Issue

As a passionate sports fan, millions of us like me have been deeply affected by the chaotic most recent conference realignment that led to the PAC-12 schools separation into the likes of the ACC, B1G, and Big 12 because of the failed negotiations over a new media rights deal.

The realignment is already ruining the integrity of college football regarding to the College Football Playoff (CFP) expansion into 12 teams that features five of the highest ranked conference champions and seven of the best teams available from the rankings for the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

Now the independent CFP system is considering a further expansion to 14 teams (starting in 2026) that would give only the B1G and SEC champions the first-round byes and receive half of the combined revenue distribution.

Furthermore, they are planning to create a potential model of the "3-3-2-2-1" format, which means it would feature B1G and SEC to each receive 3 auto bids, Big 12 and the ACC with their 2 locks apiece, the best Group of 5 champion, and then three more teams best available from the rankings.

If the CFP approves the model to grant extra berths for the power conference schools, it will destroy the highest collegiate level of America's biggest sport and may lead to a further divide within the FBS. Furthermore, it will lead to the Big Ten and SEC completely breaking away from the NCAA as part of their ultimate goal by taking advantage of an unequal revenue sharing in favor of these two power conferences.

The CFP organization has been choosing finances over access to not only make good about themselves for the power conferences, but to undermine governing the fairness of the highest collegiate level of football by discriminating other four Group of 5 conference champions.

Our purpose of this petition is to have the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) to officially sanction the College Football Playoff as at least a 16-team single-elimination format that includes all nine Football Subdivision (FBS) conference champions as auto-bids along with the next seven (or more) of the best FPI-Based teams as at-large bids (including Norte Dame).

So, we are asking the NCAA to negotiate a joint venture with the CFP for the exclusive Division I FBS Championship governance to prioritize access for all nine auto-bid-able conferences and implement a fair share of revenue distribution for all of the qualifying playoff teams. Moreover, this change can implement for the 2026 season due to a new six-year deal recently made with ESPN and TNT.

Please sign this petition and share it on your social media accounts today to support the fairness of including all conference champions representing in the CFP as the sanctioned NCAA Division I FBS Championship of college football. Use the Hashtags: #NCAASanctionCFP #NCAAxCFP #FBSxCFP

Update: The CFP has announced to put its further expansion decision on hold until after the completion of the 2024 season.
