High school students in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system that are taking English 2, Biology, Math 1, Math 3, or a CTE course are required to attend an in-person End of Course or End of Grade final exam. The state has made it clear that, regardless of whether students are signed up to be fully remote, failure to attend the exam will result in a score of zero. This policy forces students to put themselves and their families at greater risk of contracting COVID-19.

Mecklenburg County has had seen over 37,000 COVID-19 cases, and over 400 resulting deaths. Additionally, the daily average increase in cases in this area has nearly doubled over the past month. Many CMS students and families are immunocompromised/high risk, and mandating the return of students for exams endangers their health. 

No student should be required choose between their safety and a grade. Sign this petition to encourage the NC State Board of Education to reevaluate this policy and offer an alternative remote option to CMS students.
