SUBJECT: GUN VIOLENCE IN NORTH CAROLINA

I’m a resident of North Carolina and I’m fed up with the rampant gun violence in my community, and I’m urging you to act to stop this alarming trend. Guns are the leading cause of death for children, teens, and young adults in America. You cannot choose to look away at these statistics when there are proven solutions available to enact into laws WE CAN LIVE WITH.

Every day in America, at least 120 people are shot and killed, more than 200 are shot and wounded, and countless others experience the collective trauma of gun violence. Our state has the 23rd highest rate of gun deaths in America, with an average of 1,588 people a year dying from a gun.  Gun violence in any form leaves an enduring mark on the lives of those who are impacted. 

Senate Bill 50 was recently filed to lower the age requirement to carry a firearm to 18 and eliminate the need for a permit. I am asking you, as my representative, to vote against Senate Bill 50. This bill is destructive to Americans’ safety and we urge you to do your part to prevent it from becoming a reality. Our children and our future depend on it.
