NBHA Youth & Teen Worlds Rule Enforcement
NBHA Youth & Teen Worlds Rule Enforcement
The Issue
While attending NBHA's Youth & Teen World Championships in Perry, GA we were confronted with behaviors that generally result in arrests and didn't even result in removal from competition. Hundreds of kids that attend this event just saw with their own eyes that as far as the NBHA is concerned there are no real consequences for assault and/or animal cruelty.
Many of us have seen the videos, many of us were there when the incidents happened. There are real safety concerns for both horse and rider and NBHA must address these concerns by enforcing not only their rules but also the laws. Putting your hands on anyone is assault and not only was the offender not arrested, but they were also not removed (permanently) from the grounds. The horses in such desperate condition were not reported to animal control and were allowed to run in competition. The stud led by a child hurt horses and humans. There was no checking of coggins or health certs at the gate. Ignoring these concerns could result in more serious injuries or deaths.
If the NBHA wants families to continue to attend this event they must take steps to ensure the safety of humans and their equine partners. While we understand it's not possible to police every part of the fairgrounds at all times something must be done when these issues arise. NBHA threatened to take back numbers...do it. Eject those who break rules and laws.
