Young children thrive in sunshine, fresh air and exploring the natural world. Research (Int J Environ Res Public Health. 2022 Oct; 19(19): 12661) has shown that children benefit from time outdoors, particularly time in nature-rich spaces. The benefits of outside play include motor and social skill development and improved mental and physical health. A nature playground in an Alpine Environment would benefit the entire Enchanted Circle of New Mexico including the rural communities of Taos, Red River, Angel Fire, Questa and Eagle Nest.

Nature playgrounds have recently opened at the Pajarito Environment Education Center in Los Alamos and the Randal Davey Audubon Center in Santa Fe. The Village of Taos Ski Valley and the Enchanted Circle Trails Association have an opportunity to build something that would benefit local children and bring more visitors to the Village during the shoulder and summer seasons.  

Alpine Playgrounds are common in Switzerland and other European ski areas. In the summertime, these creative structures provide entertainment and recreation for children and adults alike. Let's build something that will benefit all members of our community!
