Corning Union High school has decided to remove the grass from the football field and replace it with artificial turf. Studies have been done with variable results: increased player injuries, material toxicity, high installation costs.

Some of the more known material that synthetic turf is made from:

cork; "crumb Rubber"; Silica pellets; Polyethelene fiber (all known to have side effects in the human body).

The materials and installation costs far exceed a similarly sized field of natural grass.

A) Turf carpet and installation is approximately $5.00 per square foot or

 $400,000 for an 80,000 square football field.

The turf must be replaced every 8-10 years at a cost of $500,000.

B) Natural Grass is approximately $2.85 pe square foot or $228,000 for a football field and can last up to 30 years.
