The Exploitation of Dreamcatchers - None-Natives Selling Sacred Items.

The Exploitation of Dreamcatchers - None-Natives Selling Sacred Items.
The issue
Anyone can make a dreamcatcher if done with respect but only native american decedents can sell them if they choose to do so. A culture that suppressed these traditions should not profit off the very one they tried to destroy.
As a Native I have seen more and more individuals making dreamcatcher through online tutorials and teachings. This has been the Native American gift for centuries as a gift of unity and peace.
A survey on Facebook was conducted in a Native American group with over 158,840 members were 98% of Native Americans voted that anyone can make a dreamcatcher but only Indigenous peoples can sell them if they choose to do so.
Online and at markets I see non-natives fighting to make and sell dreamcatchers for their own profit titled as "boho", these crafters have made no effort to the education of the Sacred Items they are selling and what they mean to Natives. Dreamcatchers we must not forget are sacred items, they are not decoration. They are Native American Talismans and their design will always remain the property of the Natives. Anyone can make a dreamcatcher but non-indigenous people have not been initiated by the tribes elders to produce them for profit.
Dreamcatchers ARE SACRED ITEMS. Imagine if all of social media was to start producing custom made Didgeridoos? What if they were trying to make a profit of Aboriginal Art? There would be an headlines in the news yet the dreamcatcher is often forgotten and abused by want-to-be Instagramers.
I aim aiming that this petition can bring awareness to this issue and so that people can support native artists like myself in the education of our heritage.
Anyone can make a dreamcatcher but only Native Americans or Initiated Persons by the Elders and Tribes should be allowed to sell them.
