Nationalise Tata Steel to Secure the British Steel Industry for Present/Future Generations

Nationalise Tata Steel to Secure the British Steel Industry for Present/Future Generations
The Issue
This year marks the 44th anniversary of one of the largest mass redundancies in Western Europe's history when 6,500 workers were laid off in a single day from Shotton Steel. The community still hasn't fully recovered. Today, we face a similar threat with Port Talbot. In 1976, under a Labour government, the decision was made to close down operations. Despite four years of relentless struggles by the workforce and community, it was ultimately a newly incumbent Conservative Party in late 1979 that delivered the final blow in March 1980.
Now we stand at another crossroads for our steel industry and heavy manufacturing sector - Tata Steel must be nationalised to secure these industries for present and future generations. We need to ensure that there is a future left for our children; one where key skills are preserved, knowledge is passed on and quality British steel continues to support our manufacturing sector.
Nationalising Tata Steel will secure supply chains for defence, shipbuilding, construction, and car industries that rely heavily on steel rather than paying premium prices or relying on imports from other countries. It's time we take control of this vital resource once again.
We urge you to sign this petition today as an investment in Britain’s future – let us not repeat history but learn from it instead. Sign now!
