Stop the closure of George Stephensons birthplace Wylam

National Trust closes George Stephenson's birthplace in Wylam.
This is a very disappointing decision made by the National Trust has decided to close part of a village social history without any consultation to the local parish council and its residents.
This is a historic house which attracts visitors from all over the country and world which is maintained by National Trust staff and volunteers and is a great attraction to Tynedale for walkers, runners and cyclists.
I would encourage local residents and the wider community to show your support to the birthplace of George Stephenson and contact the National Trust with your objections to have this closed and to support this petition.
If this does close permanently it may attract vandalism as it will be a vacant building and will be a huge key part of Wylam Community gone.
This decision isn't just a huge setback to the Wylam community but an insult to history. Although the response given by the CEO Helen Ghosh was very vague who confirmed that during the temporary closure National Trust intend to consult widely as possible which include the local community, interest groups, staff and volunteers I feel it is quite clearly shown on the online petition which reached 1800 signature within 72 hours that the support by the locals and wider community is strong and we unite together keep this cottage open.
I hope that together we can have the National Trust to do a U turn on their decision and we can come in force to make this historic attraction a huge success and one that it fully deserves and that is firstly by reopening the important monument to the history of the village.
