Let Willy Stay Home!
The Issue
Willard, better known as Willy, is my pet pig who has been a member of my family for the last five years. He enjoys eating food, cuddle times, basking in the sun, and rooting in our flower beds. Willy is well known in his community for standing by the fence soaking up attention from all of his fans. Every day, we have different visitors giving him love, attention and the occasional carrot or apple. We often get questions like, "What's his name? How old is he? Does he live inside?" All which I answer as, "His name is Willy, he is a five year old mini potbelly pig who enjoys living inside and outside!"
Recently, we received a letter from the Borough of National Park stating we need to remove our pet in 30 days due to Ordinance 5-2014 (Unpermitted animals, including swine). While Willy is in fact, a pig, he lives in a fenced in yard, and spends his life as a house pet who is neutered, fed a high quality diet, and is trained to use a doggie door to get inside and outside. He is a domesticated animal that does not know or understand farm life.
Willy is not "livestock". He is no different than a dog. In fact, he is intelligent, loving, sensitive, and really enjoys human company (and belly scratches!). Willy does not deserve to be taken from his home. Please, if you have had any personal experiences with Willy and think he should stay, or if you believe mini pigs ARE pets, then sign this petition! Thank you.
