National MP Sam Uffindell should resign after disgraceful violent schoolboy attack comes to light According to reports in Stuff and other media, Sam Uffindell “was asked to leave his exclusive boarding school after viciously beating a younger student late at night. Uffindell only offered the man an apology last year, 22 years after the attack, and nine months before he publicly announced his political aspirations.” How bad was the attack, reports said this, “The man said the original incident happened on the last night of term in 1999, inside one of the King’s College boarding houses. He had been in bed in his dorm room after lights out, when four older boys came in and jumped on him and began beating him, he said. He thought the boys had been using wooden bed legs unscrewed from their dorm. ‘I was covering my head … they were smashing me,’ he said. ‘I don’t remember much but when it was over everyone ran into the next dorm and lay down on the floor between the beds there to hide.’ The victim says later on, there were photos taken of his injuries. “They show this skinny little white kid covered in bruises,” he said. His ribs weren’t cracked, but there was some damage to the cartilage.” While Uffindell claims that his apology wasn’t politically motivated it came nine months before he publicly announced his political aspirations. His victim said he reluctantly forgave Uffindell until he discovered Uffindell was running for parliament. “But then a few months later I sat down to watch the news on the couch with a beer and there he was, running for Parliament,” the victim said. “I felt sick.” All of this was apparently known to the National Party but not to the voters. This has made a mockery of that election and of his elevation to an MP. There is no excuse for its concealment and what was a heinous act. It was a violent uncalled-for assault with a weapon, covered up by his school and now the National Party. Uffindell has been disingenuous and his party completely deceitful. It doesn’t matter if it’s 22 years ago or 2 years ago. Should a man who has done this be representing people in Parliament? We say no! We say he should resign! Uffindell needs to go!
