Vrinda Aggarwal started this petition to Dr. Satbir Bedi, Chairperson (National Council of Teacher Education)

The country has been witnessing some major changes in education sector and one such change is eligibility criteria to become a primary teacher.
Many students as well as teachers oppose decision of the government of India to allow B.Ed. Degree holders to become PRT. If a deep thought is given to the above issue, the number of students that will be at a disadvantage are more than the number of students who will be at an advantage.

Reason in favor of petition subject:

  1. B.Ed. students are neither taught anything about primary teaching nor given any specific training to teach at elementary level. For Eg. No School experience programme to teach primary students
  2. The course structure of B.Ed. is completely different from the need and curriculum of primary classes. Eg. They don't have the subject needed in primary teaching
  3. There already exists a specialised course for students who want to become a primary teacher i.e. Diploma in elementary education(D.El.Ed.), Junior Basic Training (JBT), Basic Training Certificate(BTC) that caters the need of primary teaching.
The course structure of these courses include work experience in primary classes, curriculum of primary, teaching methodology and techniques according to the psychology of primary students.
  4. Students that pursue B.Ed. course aspire to become a pgt or a tgt.
So if these students get opportunity to become a PGT/TGT they will ultimately end up leaving their PRT posts leading to vacant seats; As a result recruitment process has to be repeated all over again which will be a wastage of energy, money manpower and time.
  5. Although the government has made it mandatory for B.Ed. students to do a bridge curriculum after they get a job but shouldn't it be mandatory before they get a job. This rule is basically allowing those students to get a job who are not even specialized in that specific field. As a result their efficiency and effectiveness will be less than the one who is specialized in the field.

Suggestion: Specialized Bridge curriculum should be mandatory for B.Ed. students before getting a job to fulfill the eligibility criteria to become a primary teacher.
