We urge all law enforcement officers and leaders throughout the nation to be among the leading voices to end the cycle of violence against our brothers and sisters of color. We appreciate and support you, we acknowledge that you routinely put your own safety at risk in order to protect us, and we understand your instinct to be protective and defensive of your fellow officers. The fact that our laws offer harsher penalties for murderers of police officers should provide you with the assurance that we value your lives a great deal.
It’s painful enough when innocent citizens are senselessly brutalized by bigots and vigilantes as was the case with Maud Arbery in February. It is absolutely devastating when the brutality occurs at the hands of those who have sworn to protect and serve us. As you put your own lives at risk, you are all entitled to protect yourselves, but when it so blatantly crosses the line, as was the case with George Floyd, it must be universally condemned. So, we respectfully ask you to:

1. Be a leading voice in condemning excessive force or violence towards ALL citizens;
2. Irrespective of the code within your brotherhood/sisterhood, to shun the bigots within your own ranks, as they cannot be trusted to protect everyone equally, and they must leave the law enforcement profession by choice, or otherwise, in order to help our nation heal.

We, as citizens, must demonstrate our support of you, and in turn, you must unequivocally and loudly proclaim your support for the rights of ALL citizens!
