A midweek update on the "Kid"

Kayne has had a good week thus far. His blood counts were good on Monday and he has not been getting sick from the chemo pill. He had his first physical therapy appointment at Children's Hospital yesterday. The therapist put together a plan for him to do daily, to help keep his hips and back stretched. The steroid Kayne has been taking for the past few months gives him pain in his joints, just like someone with arthritis. Kirsten's friends were able to get her a spa day on Tuesday. Kayne and I kept it a secret from Kirsten. Her friend, Francis picked her up at the hospital and drove her to the spa. She had no idea what was going on or where she was going. I told her she was getting picked up by a friend and asked her to just go with the program. She is glad she did! She had a facial, massage and a pedicure. Her favorite! Kayne and I took in his favorite, Skyline Chili. What's coming up? Well, getting the first week out of the way without Kayne being sick was key to our future plans. Now, we are planning a to visit with friends and family living in the area. We are still keeping it low key and limiting how much we do, which will help keep Kayne's immune system strong. A few friends have offered to have us over for dinner and hang out, which will be nice to avoid the restaurants. The big man, Keagan will be joining us on Friday during his four-day weekend. We are back in the clinic on Monday for more blood work and visit with the doctors. Kayne has two physical therapy appointments next week as well. Kayne is scheduled to get his 2nd round of the trial medication on March 20th, but his blood work must be within the limits. If it is not, he must stay around town, waiting for his levels to fall within range. Once he gets the medicine, he will get to head home for the month. Things are working out well for us at the Ronald McDonald house. Keagan heads back to FSU on Monday, but returns on Friday for Spring Break. He will drive a few of his friends and our cat, Chopper back to Florida for us. I will be flying home on March 16th so Keagan can pick me up from the airport. We will spend a few days together before his spring break is over. As I said, Kirsten and Kayne must be "fluid" as we used to say. She will have to work closely with Angel flights to get them back to Florida. Hopefully, on the 21st or 22nd. It will be nice for all of us to be back at home for awhile. A special thank you to a few friends. Al Rich and Jerry Provence were in Florida and they took care of a few things for us. They even attempted to fix a sink I couldn't fix. One of those pesky times when you end up just getting a new faucet. What friends would do plumbing work on their vacation? My KSP pals! Also, our friend Robyn Stahl overnighted a bottle of medicine I forgot to bring. She was a lifesaver! That's an overview of our stay in Cincinnati. We will plug in what we can with friends, but we ask for understanding if we can't work everyone in during this visit.
