Chemo medication trial-Day 7

Kayne took his first dose of ribociclib on Monday as an inpatient at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. He didn't have any adverse side effects and was released early Tuesday morning. He continued taking the medicine daily and fortunately, he has not had any problems thus far. The biggest side effects are with the blood levels. The medication can cause the white blood cell count to go to a low level, creating a greater risk with his immune system. This has brought an even greater awareness to washing our hands, paying more attention to the people around us, and avoiding those who are sick. We must keep Kayne healthy. We moved into the Ronald McDonald house on Friday. As Kirsten stated in her post on Facebook, this scenario works well for us. It is our own space and is located across the street from the hospital and the outpatient physical therapy. Monday, February 27, 2016 is another big day. It is clinic day and another blood draw to check blood levels after being on the medicine for 1 week. We pray for good results. We continue to ask for prayers for Kayne and a miracle healing by our savior, Jesus Christ. This medicine is not a cure. It is a drug they hope will stop the tumor from growing and adding months onto the normal lifespan of 6-9 months after radiation. While Kayne is able to do many things currently, and by looking one would never know the tumor is still there. This is the Honeymoon phase. Post radiation, the patient comes back almost as normal as before. Without this trial medication, the tumor growth usually starts back within 6-9 months, we pray this medicine will work for years.
