2/19 - Tomorrow (2/20) at 7:30 am EST is the start of a new chapter for Kayne Finley and his battle against DIPG! He has been feeling good and has high spirits! Kayne possesses a tremendously positive attitude and we are so proud of him. He is calm and relaxed and helps us all remember it does no good to worry about things we do not know.
Our family enjoyed a nice, low-key weekend connecting with a few of our long-time friends from the "old" neighborhood. Once we get through this week we're looking forward to seeing more and more friends while here in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.
The road ahead while uncertain is much clearer when we are walking with Jesus Christ. It's with boldness we claim His full and total body healing for Kayne. We are hopeful and full of expectation for good things in Kayne's future.
In Kayne's words this evening:
"I want people to know that DIPG is not as rare as it may seem. Less than 1% of children diagnosed survive and there is barely any funding for these children. Clinical trials are not abundant either and the requirements to be in these trials and stay are sometimes hard to meet.
The cancer isn't more severe in my case because it hasn't attacked my respiratory system. But, since I am older, my immune system may be a little stronger so side effects of drugs and radiation perhaps could have been slightly lesser for me rather than some of the younger kids.
Ribociclib is supposed to help prohibit the tumor from growing. For me, the side effects will be fatigue most likely in the 3rd and 4th week of each cycle as I continue to take the medicine.
The biggest thing I want people to know is that I'm doing great mentally. I'm prepared and ready. Because a few weeks ago I was in a different shape (physically), it's easier to look to the bright side now and appreciate everything I'm doing to "normalize" myself again.
I'm also thankful thankful to everyone for all the prayers and positive vibes and for everything in my life. I can't thank you enough for all you do for me."
May God bless each of you today and this week!
